This Target First Saturday we’re doing things a little different. Brooklyn Museum has joined forces with Bang on a Can Marathon to celebrate its 30th anniversary! We are so excited to present the Marathon for the first time in Brooklyn, and know you will enjoy this evening of boundary-pushing musical performances.
Some highlights of this mini-music festival include legendary Meredith Monk, guitarist Kaki King, steelpan orchestra Pan in Motion, and Women’s Raga Massive—the all female offshoot of First Saturday alums Brooklyn Raga Massive. Peep the full line up on our Facebook event!
But wait there’s more! In addition to the Marathon we will be presenting several other music-themed programs in traditional First Saturday style. Our partners at Brooklyn Dance Festival will present David Parker’s Turing Tests, in which dancers from The Bang Group use their bodies to perform a musical score. Join us on the 5th floor galleries for Pop Up Talks by BKM Teen Apprentices about the musical instruments on view in Life, Death, and Transformation in the Americas and spoken word poetry and conga drumming organized by Jaime Lee Lewis. At Hands on Art you can create a musical instrument, then bring it out to the Biergarten to record some music with Found Sound Nation’s Street Studio or join the Orchestra of Original Instruments led by legendary musician Mark Stewart!
We’re looking forward to seeing (and hearing) you there!
