Part II

Two years passed by largely unnoticed; three years and one year at the same time.

Unself Aware

Moving on and rediscovering love. Support not jealousy. Visiting Nonna, Dad, family and friends. Ticking things off my New York bucket list. 1,000 Instagram posts into a book. Stickers on the Williamsburg bridge. New York icons blog. Passion Planner. More male friends, less exes. Node, NoSQL and React. Ether. Flatiron office. Berlin birthday. Amazon and Tesla stocks. East Village. Michael Cera and Larry David. Visits from Kirkey, Jess, Taleah, Neha, Ian, Amanda, Arthur and Sally. Sample sales and Y3. Comic book pull. Hannah and Matt having babies! Italian passport process. Ace Hotel. Reduced sugar cravings. Magic days. Vegan and paleo. Family crisis — a Shakespearean drama. Health steadily declining. Cholesterol, thinning and mini-strokes? Lack of side projects. Lack of community. Work volatility and stress. Trump. Apartment noise. Arthur leaving. Bike crash. Repeat experiences are less magical. Passion for adventure and exploring still strong. Fluctuate between highbrow and lowbrow. Williamsburg is over-gentrified. Over pop art. Love is a spectrum from comfort (fried chicken) to crazy highs (heroin) — both extremes are bad. Successful friends inspire. At my best when comfortable socially. Berlin after New York? Optionality by buying tickets to everything. No tips for takeaway coffee, $1 for cab. Tie dye is in. Varying interests, no commitment. Addicted to distraction. Away from the moment. Increased interest in investment. The polyamorous relationship between clubs, rich/famous guys, and attractive women. City is aging me both physically and mentally. Partying less. Privilege is paralyzed by shame. Most people lead many New York lives sequentially, I’m living them simultaneously. Agile relationships: iterate and retrospect. Adversity and struggle are good. Beauty is distracting. Casual dating is having your pussy and eating it too. Family is addicted to drama. A creature of un-habit. Dad is my source of strength and stability. Australia, the frontier nation. Need time alone to recharge. Only turn on notifications from real people. Occasionally leave the phone at home. Mind is clear and relaxed after getting fucked up. Sugar is my drug of choice. Loud public kissers are annoying. People don’t put down deep roots in New York. Crave boundaries and constraint. Awful Relationship Simulator™. Worst places in the city: Times Square, MetLife, Penn and Hell’s Kitchen. Gender-neutral bathrooms are discrimination towards women. Project manager at work. Shedding possessions is liberating. New York in the summer. Black youths fighting on the street for fun. Work all-nighter. Turned down a threesome. Want to travel to Nepal. Emotions get the first response. Maximum opportunities with minimal obligations. The brain loves narrative — what story am I feeding my brain? Thank you Nicki for setting me free, thank you Joe for paving the way.

NoMad

Moved out of my East Village apartment to attempt a series of 1–2 month subleases across all five boroughs New York. New friends, new experiences, new perspectives, new adventures. Final night fittingly spent with the apartment to myself, sitting on the fire escape reflecting with a beer and Cuban cigar.

Some things I will miss about East Village: Bars (Proletariat, Drop Off Service, Standings, Good Beer), food (Momofuku, bagels), walking to work, close to the L, Tompkins Square park, local coffee shop (Three Seat), running along East River, all the little gardens, the vibrancy.
