Bronx Aesthetician Talks Skincare, Her Product Line, and New Throggs Neck Location

As we go from flip flops to fall boots, our skin also experiences some changes with the season. Fall often means more makeup, dryer skin, and is also the perfect time to get on top of your skincare routine and start fresh before the brutal winter hits. So I stopped in to Blanc Azur Spa in Throggs Neck for a facial with local aesthetician Rhiannon Terese where we talked skincare, common mistakes women make, and her skincare line.

With the lights dimmed and spa music playing quietly in the background, I hopped up on Rhiannon’s table as she went over the details of the facial she would be doing- the Ultrasonic Facial w/eyebrow lift. I knew I was guilty of over exfoliating from the hot summer months and I needed a gentle but effective treatment, which is why this facial was perfect for me.

While a facial is normally the perfect chance to close my eyes and relax, I still managed to get some questions in during our session.

Can you tell me more about today’s facial?

For this facial, I will cleanse your skin with a mild cleansing agent that has a unique blend of glycolic acid, salicylic acid antioxidants and botanical extracts (helps to counteract the signs of free radical damage, while soothing and calming irritated skin). I will then remove the cleanser with the ultrasonic skin scrubber which extracts (removes impurities from pores) and exfoliates the surface of the skin.

After, I will gently massage a coffeeberry enzyme into your skin. This powerful antioxidant prevents cellular damage (wrinkles ,fine lines ,pigmentation) and remove it with a second pass of the ultrasonic spatula. I will then apply a powerful dose of copper peptide serums for micro-nutrition to help “clean up” the skin and finish off with the ultrasonic to penetrate the serums deeper into the skin to stimulate the fibers. The immediate result of this facial is being lifted ,smooth ,plump ,and hydrated. Long term, the collagen is stimulated to rebuild tissue and even out the tone and texture of your skin.

What are your most popular services?

The most popular services are the Sculplla facial, Ultrasonic facial, microphototherapy, and chemical peels (Immediate results are seen after one treatment and are accumulative over time).

Recommended Frequency:
Sculplla Facial – Initially every week then monthly. (each treatment last 5 weeks)
Ultrasonic Facial – Every 3 Weeks
Microphototherapy – Initially 2 x a week for 4 weeks followed by monthly maintenance.
Chemical Peel – Every 3 weeks

What is the most common skincare mistake that women make?

The most common mistake I see woman make is over exfoliating. People love scrubbing and getting that “squeaky clean” feeling. This not only strips the skin of oil but causes irritation, inflammation, sensitivity, redness and ages the skin. Of course this depends on what products you’re using and what services you are getting but generally speaking anything over 3 times a week is too much.

How much should women be investing in their skin care routine?

You don’t have to spend a fortune for skin health. Follow a simple skin care regimen and then splurge on correction serums and/or services. It is essential to educate and provide people in all communities with affordable treatments and quality skin health.

The ingredients and extracts are derived from bio-fermentation of marine algae, coated transparent micronized zinc oxide for full protection from UVA and UVB radiation, and stabilized enzymes.  These key ingredients that are botanically derived or bio-engineered from plant sources are carefully selected based upon research demonstrating true efficacy through clinical studies.  Natural herb extracts and aromatherapy essential oils are blended with water based emulsions to provide anti-aging results.

How can people go about ordering from your line?

Orders can be taken over the phone, by email, or contacting me directly. I ship orders via UPS.

If one does use over the counter products in between sessions, what are some products you recommend?

I would recommend Dove, Cetaphil, Eucerin, Cereve, Aquaphor, and Aveeno.

What about makeup? With the increased popularity in contouring and heavier makeup application, I’d love to know which products are better on your skin?

I prefer foundations that have a breathable gel like Oxygenetix.  This is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and free of unpronounceable chemical ingredients. Oxygenetix foundations are also SPF 25 or higher. Also, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS remove your makeup before bed. Besides the fact that sleeping in it ages you by many years. It causes inflammation ,irritation and clogs pores.  Gently remove make up with soap and water or oil free cleansing wipes.

What are your thoughts on sleeping on a silk pillowcase verses cotton?

There is no scientific proof that silk pillow cases prevent aging. However, silk is more hygenic as cotton depletes moisture and harbors bacteria.

By the end of the facial, I felt cleansed, relaxed, and rejuvenated. Rhiannon let me know my face would be a bit more shiny than I might be used to at first, but to let my face breathe and use a gently cleanser that night. She then gave me a few of her products to get a new skincare regimen going- a cleanser, Papaya Enzyme exfoliant to be used 2-3x a week, an eye treatment, a Luminous Peptide serum, and a Glycolic Gel Renewal Moisturizer. So far I”ve noticed a difference in my skin- I’m less shiny, less red and irritated, and my skin feels great!

My products also included an easy to use skin care guide- which showed me which products to use at morning and which were for my nightly routine. I simply keep the sheet nearby in the bathroom so I can easily follow my new regimen.
