Vibrant inflatable utopia has Instagrammers going wild at London Design Festival

Playful, colourful and creative – what more could you want? French artist Camille Walala has designed a building-block inflatable castle for the London Design Festival to help city workers de-stress and Instagrammers are overjoyed. Dubbed Villa Walala, the inflatable installation is an imaginative paradise for onlookers and rises up between the offices in Broadgate’s Exchange Square. Utilising Walala’s signature colours and graphics, visitors will also find things like stress balls within the squishy castle. It took 1200 square metres of vinyl and 50 people over 1,200 hours to make.

British Land, Headline Partner of London Design Festival for the second consecutive year, commissioned the geometric textile designer to create a landmark project at Broadgate. Camille’s aim was to add a bit of fun to the daily grind and unsurprisingly, this vibrant utopia has caught the attention of Instagrammers who have pictured joyful snaps in and around the installation.

Walala graduated in Textile Design from the University of Brighton and her namesake brand was established in East London in 2009. Her influences include the Memphis Movement, the Ndebele tribe and Optical Art master Victor Vasarely as well as the simple desire to put a smile on people’s faces.

You can find Camille’s project on Exchange Square in Moorgate until 24 September. The London Design Festival features over 450 events taking place across the city. It is both a cultural and commercial experience and includes exhibitions, seminars, workshops, trade events and product launches, with the majority of organised events free of charge and open to the public to attend.
