Casual Friday + Why I Chopped My Hair.

dress // sneakers // bracelet

I have been getting asked a lot of questions on Instagram DMs about why I cut my hair! The simple answer is that I have always been a little jealous of friends with cute short hair and messy lobs, (or whatever that style of hair is called). But with my natural hair texture, cutting my hair has always been out of the question unless I wanted to have to blow it out and curl it every single day. (I actually had short hair when I moved to the city 12 years ago – it was the most high-maintenance hairstyle I’ve ever had!!!)

For the past 10+ years I really relied on my long hair to weigh it down and keep it in check… if it isn’t long, it gets very big and crazy. I rarely cut it… seriously… we’re talking about cutting it once a year and maybe a tiny quarter inch trim when I got highlights. About a month and a half ago, I got a keratin treatment. Sidebar: I promise, I am going to do a very thorough post about that, once it’s been a full three months and I can tell you if it was worth the money. The reason I’ve waited to do a post about it is to make sure of that. I’d hate to tell you to do it now, and have it not last the full three months. With the keratin treatment, I suddenly had the straight-ish, frizz-free hair I always dreamed about having. And having it thaaaaat long (and straight) made me realize just how long (too long!) it had gotten. With my hair so so straight, it also showed how dead the ends had gotten. It’s really evident in these photos.

So I decided to give it a good chop. We took six inches off. We It wasn’t because I was unhappy with the keratin treatment (a lot of you asked if that was the case) or anything like that, it was more realizing just how dead my hair had gotten from years of only tiny trims and weekly blowouts… and also realizing that I could finally have cute short(ish) hair that wouldn’t be a giant frizz ball. That’s all! 😉 If you have more questions I’m happy to answer them… I didn’t really think my haircut was worth it’s own blog post but I have gotten so many questions so decided to write about it!  Oh and if you need a good stylist, go see Jay! He cuts, colors, and styles my hair. Love him.

This is the last of the Charleston outfits. I loooove this dress – you can dress it up with fun jewelry and heels, or wear it more casually with sneakers. These sneakers from Vince are my go-to travel/everyday shoe. I got the grey wool ones last year and went back for the navy suede this year. They are everything – so comfy, and as someone who doesn’t wear sneakers very often I like that the platform gives them a little height so they feel a bit more dressy. They’re the perfect everyday shoe as they literally look good with anything!
