Now you don’t need to go to Japan to get a pink KitKat

For anyone who has visited Asia, they will know that KitKats are things of legend over there and its latest offering with a pink hue has been making waves across Japan and Korea. Back in January, the KitKat Ruby made its debut in Asia, much to the delight of the market and now for the first time, the couverture chocolate is coming to Europe.

This week, on 16 April, the KitKat Ruby by Nestlé will be released to consumers and the United Kingdom will be the first to try it. Available in Tesco, the popular four-finger wafer is coated in “Ruby chocolate”. The name is derived from specially selected cocoa beans which were dubbed Ruby by the famous Swiss chocolatier Barry Callebaut.

The beans themselves go through a unique process to achieve the flavour and colour tone that’s present in them and the chocolate is said to have “an intense berry-fruitiness taste.” Given the success of this chocolate treat over in Asia (people even bring them home from Japan as souvenirs), no doubt that Nestlé are hoping that UK consumers will be enticed by their new offering.

“We know that a new type of KitKat is a really big deal and we are very excited to be able to offer a different type of chocolate for KitKat fans to try,” Alex Gonnella, Marketing Director for Nestlé’s UK confectionery business said.

“Ruby chocolate is a big innovation in confectionery and we are very proud that KitKat is the first major brand in the UK to feature this exciting new chocolate.”
