BUSHWICK, Brooklyn — This Friday, we took the PIX11 Morning Show on the road!
We went down to Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick, Brooklyn to enjoy the food, fashion and art scene of zip code 11237.
Check out some segments from the LIVE show:
Hometown Heroes: When you come into Bushwick, there’s no way you’ll miss the street art around the town. Joe Ficalora of the Bushwick Collective turned tragedy into art and started a project where artists can showcase their artwork free from the pressures of mass-market retail. Ficalora, a Bushwick native, also discussed how the area has changed from when he was younger to how it is now.
Neighborhood Eats: From pizza to beer, PIX11 stopped by some of Bushwick’s hot spots. First stop: Roberta’s Pizza– celebrities and politicians have stopped by this popular pizza store. Visiting a brewery is also a must as Bushwick was once called the beer capital of the north east. We stop by KCBC, the first brewery in the area for the first time in about 40 years.
Bushwick Fashion: When asked to describe Bushwick fashion in one word, it would definitely be “cool.” Sara Viallard, the owner of the Worship boutique, stops by to talk about the latest trends you’d find people wearing while walking the Bushwick streets.
Hometown Teams: What’s a Bushwick visit without their hometown team? The Gotham Girls Roller Derby All-Star team is 2-0 for this season, and the organization is all about women’s empowerment. The all-female, skater-operated derby league is comprised of strong, diverse and independent women of all ages.
Thanks for spending your morning with New York‘s Very Own PIX11!
