Here’s where you can get the cheapest and most expensive pints in the world

For many people, one of the pleasures of a holiday is enjoying a long, cool pint, but it’s hard to know how much one will cost as beer prices wildly fluctuate in price all over the world. As part of its Mapping the Worldʹs Prices 2018 survey, analysts at Deutsche Bank calculated the cost of a pint of beer in 48 cities around the world, and ranked the most expensive pints down to the cheapest.

The median price of beer was found to be $5.70/€4.84,with the cheapest being $1.50/€1.27 and the most expensive $12/€10.19. There is good news for those heading to cities where the price of a pint is a steal. The five cheapest pints were found in Manila ($1.50/€1.27), Prague ($1.60/€1.36), Johannesburg ($2.20/€1.87), Mexico City ($2.40/€2.04) and Cape Town ($2.60/€2.21). San Miguel, the Philippines’ largest brewery, dominates the beer market there with a share of over 90%, and its low cost of living and steady supply of domestic beer earned it the lowest price per pint on the list.

The price in each city is, of course, influenced by factors like the cost of living, and many of the cities that had the most expensive pints had correspondingly higher costs of living in general. The data collection was conducted in expat areas of the city to give a consistent comparison. In this case, the five cities with the most expensive beer were found to be Dubai ($12/€10.19), Oslo ($10.30/€8.79) Hong Kong ($8.90/€7.56), Singapore ($8.30/€7.05) and Zurich ($7.70/€6.54).
