Move on Myrtle all summer long

Myrtle Avenue Plaza in Clinton Hill is officially open, and The Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership is celebrating by hosting free weekly events all summer long.

Sponsored by TD Bank, the “Move on Myrtle” event series has something for everyone—sing-alongs for kids, morning yoga, lunchtime jazz, sunset dance parties, and more! Visitors to the plaza can enjoy yoga and fitness classes  on Mondays, special events for kids on Tuesdays, live outdoor music on Wednesdays

All events take place rain or shine at the Myrtle Avenue Plaza on Myrtle Avenue between Steuben Street and Emerson Place and no advance sign up is required. Subway: G train to Classon Avenue or the B54 to Myrtle and Grand. Click here for the full summer lineup.

Visitors also will enjoy a permanent work of public art installed in the new plaza and funded by the city as part of its Percent for Art program. The piece, titled “I ought to” (2017) by artist Matthew Geller, is made of carbon, stainless steel, cast iron, stained glass, and concrete. It creates a trio of round stools capped by a circular corten steel and hand-cast colored glass concave canopy that is visually stunning while providing a place for rest and shade.

The Myrtle Avenue Plaza was one of the first projects funded by the New York City Department of Transportation’s Plaza Program. The new vibrant public space spans four blocks and turned two blocks of an asphalt service road into a tree-lined pedestrian destination for recreation and community events to be enjoyed by local residents and business owners. All are welcome to visit the new plaza this summer!
