A Sunnyside attorney who pleaded guilty in May to helping the so-called Taxi King commit fraud has closed her Skillman Avenue office.
Andreea Dumitru, whose law firm was located at 48-23 Skillman Ave., has shut down her office at time when she is still in the cross hairs of state and federal investigators.
Dumitru agreed to pay the state $25,000 in criminal restitution and to cooperate with the Attorney General in her role of aiding Evgeny Freidman, the disgraced Taxi King who once managed a fleet of 800 cabs, steal $5 million in MTA taxes.
Meanwhile, in March, she was hit with immigration fraud charges. The federal indictment alleges that Dumitru submitted fraudulent forms for over 180 clients, and knowingly made false statements about them. She has been charged with asylum fraud, which carries a sentence of 10 years in prison, and false statements that carries 5 years in prison.
