The Çamlıca TV and Radio Tower, designed by Melike Altinisik Architects, is designed to replace a number of drab telecommunications structures within Istanbul. The new project, when completed, will become the tallest tower in the city.

But more than just its communications purposes, there will be a number of other public uses for the structure. It will contain exhibition spaces and a two-story observation deck that looks out over the Bosporus, providing views across the European and Asian sides of the city. There will also be panoramic elevators that rise up 180 metres on both sides of the building, providing views of the peninsula on one side and the Black Sea coasts on the other. On the ground, the base of the building will be surrounding by a park and walkway, and the base will include a public foyer, café and more.

The tower will reach 369-metres tall, giving visitors the chance to get a good look at the city around them. With its incredible design, the building “seeks a sense of motion and rhythm within its silhouette that changes when viewed from different directions around Istanbul”. The architecture is designed to combine beauty with math and geometry.

The building is set to be officially opened in late 2019 and, according to the architecture firm, is expected to draw about 4.5 million visitors annually.
