Getting away for a spa trip can be a restorative experience and one spot in Santa Fe, New Mexico is upping the relaxation by letting guests play with puppies.
Sunrise Springs Spa Resort offers more than just massage and skin care, they also provide a “puppy enrichment program” and “canine interactions” so guests can get all the benefits of spending time with adult service dogs and puppies-in-training.
The programs are in partnership with Assistance Dogs of the West (ADW), a service dog agency. The puppy enrichment program will allow guests to take part in the process of “creating a physically, mentally and emotionally balanced puppy” that can go on to become a service animal. The early experiences of the puppies have a permanent impact on the animals, according to ADW, and are important for service dogs who will have to deal with many responsibilities. Under the supervision of ADW trainers and Sunrise Springs trained handlers, the guests will get to spend time with the puppies as they develop into service animals.
When it comes to older dogs, guests will get to spend time with service dogs who are undergoing training. Guests will learn how to interact with the dogs to promote trust and “how to interact with dogs in a respectful, cooperative and non-punitive way.”
Luckily for animal-lovers, there’s more at the spa that just dogs – there are even adorable Silkie chickens living on the site. Or, if animals aren’t your thing, there’s also yoga, mindfulness meditation, gardening, a sweat lodge and much more.
