‘Groundhog Day’ at Nitehawk, a winter warmer in Greenpoint, and a philosophy all-nighter at the BPL

23

Unless you’re the insane, fully adult woman who I saw zipping down a sidewalk covered with ice on a razor scooter last night, I’m guessing that you might have a smidge of cabin fever by the time Saturday rolls around. As luck would have it, there’s a full schedule of things to keep you out of your house from morning til the wee hours this Saturday. It’s Groundhog Day, and what better way to celebrate than with a 10:30am brunch screening of the classic Bill Murray flick of the same name at the new Nitehawk theater at Prospect Park (P.S. I finally made it there last weekend to see Green Book and was thoroughly impressed with the place). Afterward, you can recreate the apres-ski experience without the brutal drive to Vermont or the frostbitten toes at the Winter Warmer Festival at the Brooklyn Expo Center, which will feature booze, comfort food, games, fire pits, fake snow fights, and live music between 1 and 8pm. Tickets for one of the 2 ½ hour sessions start at $50. Finally, things are bound to get weird (in a good way) at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Night of Philosophy and Ideas, a free, 12-hour marathon salon and shindig dedicated to philosophy starting at 7pm. Leading philosophers from all over the globe will be debating and exchanging theories, screening films, and performing readings and live music for a full twelve hours until 7am on Sunday! You gotta admit you’re intrigued, right? There will be food and drink available for purchase, and free breakfast from Colson Patisserie if you can make it til then.
