18

Centered around BRIC’s core values of creativity, inclusion, participation, and community, the BRIC OPEN is an arts and ideas festival that brings people together to radically imagine a more liberated future. From April 24-27, come to BRIC in Downtown Brooklyn to experience community, conversation, live performances from Strings N Skins and Phony Ppl, Healing Justice Workshops with Harriet’s Apothecary, a Family Hair Party with Urban Bush Women, open mic with Mahogany L. Browne and DJ Jive Poetic, neighborhood walks around Fort Greene with Kamau Ware, art-making with Colectiva Cósmica, and contemporary art exhibitions including The Portrait is Political featuring work by Jaishri Abichandani, Texas Isaiah, and Liz Collins.

Plus, playwright Phillip Howze presents the world premiere of Self Portraits, an inventive new play reframes the political as personal to reflect on the unpredictable state of the Black body in America. There are several opportunities to experience Self Portraits throughout the course of BRIC OPEN, with performances taking place every day.

BRIC OPEN: Justice takes place Wednesday, April 24 through Saturday, April 27 and all events are free! Visit BRICartsmedia.org/open for more info and to RSVP!
