Celebs attend 15th annual Time 100 Most Influential People Gala
UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan — They’re the TIME 100, the magazine’s yearly list of the 100 most influential people. From athletes to actors to politicians to scientists, they were all in New York City Tuesday evening, gracing the red carpet from Rose Hall Theater.
Headline performers at the Time 100 Gala included Taylor Swift and Khalid. Swift also an honoree this year.
Along with journalist Gayle King, and actors Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and Sandra Oh, all are gracing one of the six collectors’ issues out on newsstands now.
Another of Time’s 100 – actress Glenn Close, who has won Tony and Emmy awards and is a multiple Oscar nominee. She had this to say when asked about this honor being bestowed upon her compared to acting accolades.
“It’s like a cherry on cake,” Close said. “I never thought in my wildest dreamsI’d be a Time 100 and I’m deeply honored. I’m thrilled and humbled to be here.”
Time’s annual list brings together actors, activists, politicians, scientists athletes – power players who are influencing the world and a reflection of what’s happening in culture, business, politics and world events.
“The diversity within the group is incredible there’s not so many athletes and so I’m trying to hold down the fort for athletes,” said U.S. Soccer Player Alex Morgan.
This year is considered the year of the women – half of the 100 are female honorees.
“I am so honored to represent Planned Parenthood here tonight and the one in five women in America we serve this time we are fighting for our health and our rights,” said Leana Wen, president of Planned Parenthood.
TIME Magazine editors choose the100. But there’s also a separate readers poll. Topping that list for the second year in a row is the “K-Pop” group “BTS,” chosen by readers as most influential.
