0 2

[Update Below] A helicopter pilot crashed into the Hudson River near Midtown Manhattan this afternoon.

An FDNY spokesperson confirmed the crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the area of 12th Avenue and 34th Street. There were no injuries, and the pilot, who is believed to have been the only person on board, was safely rescued.

According to the NYPD, the helicopter “fell short of the landing pad on West 30th Street and Hudson River.”

You can see a few videos of the helicopter in the water, and the subsequent rescue effort, below.

Update 3:20 p.m.: The FDNY are now reporting there were two people with non-life threatening injuries: the pilot and a heliport worker, who was injured by debris. A source told Gothamist that “Zip Aviation owns the helicopter and that they are a contractor for Blade.”

Mayor de Blasio added: “Relieved to report there were no deaths or serious injuries after a helicopter incident on the Hudson river. Thank you to our first responders for your quick action. Please stay clear of 34th St and 12th Ave on the West Side so emergency response teams can complete their work.”
