An iconic Greek beach resort has been renovated in time for summer
If one of your summer plans is lounging on the shores of the Mediterranean a few steps away from an ancient Greek temple then you’re in luck— one of the most famous beach resorts of the Athens riviera has recently reopened its doors after a complete re-imagining just in time for the season.
Astir Beach has been one of the hotspots of the Athenian riviera since the 60s when it was visited by the likes of Aristotle and Jackie Onassis, Frank Sinatra, Jane Fonda and even the Beatles. Located no more than half an hour south of the Greek capital’s city centre, its main feature (other than the crystalline waters of the Aegean Sea) is the Temple of Apollo Zoster, dating back to the sixth century BC and sitting a few steps away from the seashore right in the middle of the beach.
This summer season, the iconic beach destination has been reborn and reimagined, in an effort to “re-establish Astir Beach as an international luxury beach club […] evoking the glamour and excitement of its legendary heritage,” as Maria Daniiloudi, head of marketing for Astir Palace, puts it in a statement. If you’re looking to vacation like a 60s star, then this might be the place for you.
So what’s new at Astir Beach? Pretty much everything a customer could want from a relaxing beach club, starting from food and drinks and ending at shopping opportunities. The Astir Beach Bar, decorated with natural fibres and an organic colour palette, will serve a creative cocktail menu featuring a wide list of champagne and Greek wines, while the Nice ‘N Easy Seaside restaurant will offer a Mediterranean menu with “virtuous interpretations of popular beach dishes, a sushi bar and a seafood menu”, all organically and locally sourced.
There will also be a complete wellness program with yoga, spa treatments, aqua fit, beach stretch and workout sessions; if you’re looking for fun and sleepless nights rather than relaxation though, Astir Beach is also introducing the Sunteria Music Sessions, an electronic music series with live DJ sets that will happen twice a week. Last but not least, there’ll be plenty of shopping opportunities with a chic selection of boutiques for all your beach outfit needs.
