Community Board 3’s land use committee tonight will take up several significant development issues.

First off, there will be an informational briefing from the team behind a 30-story proposed residential complex on the site of Beth Hamedrah Hagadol, the fire-ravaged synagogue at 60 Norfolk St. The Chinese American Planning Council, which owns a neighboring lot, turned to the Gotham Organization to build two new towers in an area that has seen unprecedented development in recent years (the site is adjacent to the Essex Crossing project). Tonight’s presentation is a pre-ULURP briefing. The team will return to the community board later once the project enters the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure. Plans call for incorporating a few remnants from the synagogue as part of the project.

Also tonight there will be a brief presentation from the New Museum on its plans for a major expansion of its facilities on the Bowery.

And there will be an update on a community-driven plan to rezone the Two Bridges neighborhood, which is under siege from developers intent on building more mega-towers to go alongside One Manhattan Square, Extell’s luxury condo project.

The meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. at University Settlement, 273 Bowery.
