Barn-like home on Dungeness beach lists for £995k

A black timber house designed by Rodić Davidson Architects has hit the market in Dungeness, offering a rare opportunity to own a home on the shingled Kent shore.

Known as North Vat, the UK property comprises three cabins, each linked with a glass corridor and clad in black larch – chosen as a reference to the traditional fishing huts found nearby on the beach.

The contemporary home  is listed with Philip & Stubbs for £995,000 and has an open-plan living and dining area, with huge sliding windows that look onto the shore. There’s a mezzanine bedroom overhead, lit by skylights, and two further rooms in the pair of smaller cabins.

As well as a terrace with sea views, North Vat is home to an original coastguard’s hut. Visitors can spy through sliding view hatches, and pass the time reading hand-written notes – apparently left behind by the former coastguard.
