Philip Johnson’s colonnaded Beck House is for sale in Texas

62

White concrete columns ring the exterior of Philip Johnson’s restored Beck House, which has listed for $19.5m in Dallas, Texas.

The six-bedroom Modernist home was built in 1964 and is often described as a magnified version of the architect’s Pavilion in the Pond, located down the hill from his iconic Glass House.

It’s been updated since then thanks to local studio Bodron + Fruit, who overhauled its interiors in 2008, installing a new kitchen and converting the former staff quarters into an open-plan space. The firm also added a new pool house to the Texas property.

The columns might be what distinguish Beck House – which is listed with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty – but they’re not the only dramatic element. Inside the entrance hallway, twin staircases with bronze balustrades curve up to mezzanine levels, while the dining room offers a modernist take on the vaulted ceiling.
