A cheesy, tomato-y pie can be yours for the nice price of free this weekend, when “fast-fine” Neapolitan pizza chain MidiCi opens their first New York location in Williamsburg this Saturday.

Originally based in LA, MidiCi was opened in 2015 by Amit Kleinberger, the CEO of frozen yogurt chain Menchie’s. Now, MidiCi has locations peppered across the country, plus one in Saudi Arabia, because why not. Their Williamsburg location will be their first in New York, joining other chains like &pizza that have set up shop within the five boroughs in recent years.

The Williamsburg location is owned by Mitch Hymowitz, a Queens native and current Westchester resident, and his wife Jeannie Scalzo. “My father Seymour grew up in Williamsburg and it has remained a very special place for our family,” Hymowitz said in a press release. “It was naturally our first choice when deciding where to open our restaurant.”

MidiCi allows a lot of customization when it comes to pies. Typically, you start with a base (Margherita, white, pesto, or truffle) and add toppings as you see fit. Gluten-free crusts and vegan cheese and meat options are also available.

Though there will be a lot of it, they’re not just selling pizza. Expect a creative variety of calzones (ranging from truffle to Nutella), burrata, salads, and charcuterie plates. There’s plenty to sip as well; they’ve got a full liquor license.

Back to the free pizzas—yes, it’s true. You can get a free Margherita pizza (dine-in only, one per guest) essentially all weekend, from 11 am to 11 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. As the restaurant almost shares a name with the Medicis, the famous Italian family known for their art patronage during the Renaissance, think of MidiCi as your pizza patrons for the weekend.

While this giveaway isn’t limited to the first few customers or occurring within only a slim time range, I’d still try and arrive early, as New Yorkers love to wait in line for food.

MidiCi, opening Saturday, July 13, is located at 174 North 4th Street and will be open from 11 am to 11:30 pm Sunday through Thursday and 11 am to 12:30 am Friday through Saturday.
