Heavy Rain Floods India Street and Court Square

India Street flooding on Wednesday night.

The heavy rain that poured down on NYC yesterday sparked a flash flood warning and caused flooding in Greenpoint and Long Island city affecting commuters.

The portion of India Street leading up to the pier and NYC ferry entrance was covered in water and flooded the vehicles parked on the street.

A ferry commuter shared a video from Wednesday night showing India Street inundated with water.

The developers of the soon-to-open 40-story tower “The Greenpoint,” located on the adjacent lot, opened a the new walkway as solution. As of this morning, the new walkway provides a clear path to the India Street Pier and remains accessible to the public.

Across the Pulaski Bridge in Long Island City, a subway commuter was swept off of his feet when floodwaters breached a wooden wall on the platform at Court Square last night, a video posted from Subway Creatures shows the man struggling to regain footing. Gothamist reports that it’s “unclear if the man was injured,” as a spokesperson for the FDNY did not have info.

The flooding also impacted commuters at LaGuardia and the entire tri-state area as Pix 11 reports.
