The house is located in Brooklyn’s small Fiske Terrace-Midwood Park Historic District

A landmarked home within the tiny Fiske Terrace-Midwood Park Historic District, which sits just south of Flatbush, has hit the market for $1.875 million, and it’s one of the most unique properties within that old-timey enclave.

The home at 765 East 17th Street dates back to 1906 and was one of several built by A. White Pierce, an architect who claimed to specialize in “suburban cottages” in what was, at the turn of the 20th century, a rapidly expanding part of Brooklyn. Pierce designed more than a dozen homes for the T. B. Ackerson Construction Company, of which the property of East 17th Street is one.

But the Arts & Crafts-inspired house is more striking than some of its neighbors for a number of reasons. For one, there’s an octagon-shaped tower on the northwestern corner of the house, with brick at its base and blue shingles above. There’s a cute front porch with decorative wood accents, bay windows, and a hipped roof with overhanging eaves.

Inside, many of the historic details remain: A large mantel surrounds a (gas) fireplace, there are stained glass windows and oak accents, and a large staircase connecting the home’s three floors. There are three full bathrooms (and one powder room), as well as seven bedrooms, one of which is located within that nifty little tower. Some of the spaces have gotten upgrades; the kitchen was renovated with new appliances, as were several bathrooms.

But the overall effect, thanks to the abundance of vintage elements and curb appeal, is extremely charming. The house at 765 East 17th Street is listed with Compass’s Anna Levenshus.
