LOWER MANHATTAN — The Staten Island Ferry terminal at South Ferry was briefly evacuated on Sunday afternoon because of a “suspicious package,” an NYPD spokesperson said.

The package was deemed safe shortly before 4 p.m., police said.

After it was deemed safe, conditions returned to normal with slight delays in ferry service.

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation during our investigation,” police tweeted.

The evacuation was made out of an abundance of caution,” officials said.

It’s not yet clear what the package was.

“Please avoid the area of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and surrounding areas as we investigate a suspicious package,” police has tweeted.

Video from the Citizen App shows a crowd of people standing outside the terminal entrance.
