Oct. 10, 2019 By Allie Griffin

The beloved Sunnyside Shorts International Film Festival returns to Sunnyside next month, with an impressive screening of 16 international films plus two films about the festival’s host neighborhood — past and present.

The one-day festival of short films will be hosted on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Sunnyside Reformed Church located at 48-03 Skillman Ave and will have two separate showings, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.

While the international festival will show short films from across the globe, this year’s showing includes two films that bring it back home to Sunnyside.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the afternoon showing will feature Charlie Chaplin’s 1919 silent movie “Sunnyside,” as well as six indie shorts that were favorites from previous years. The six films are from the US, Iran, Korea, Ireland and the UK. Tickets will be sold at the door for &5, while seniors age 65 and up will receive free admission.

The evening show will premiere the 2019 film “Sunnyside” by Jihyun Shin, as well as 10 other award-winning short films from the US, Estonia, Iran, Spain and France. It begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. with a 15-minute intermission where light refreshments will be offered. Tickets cost $12 online or $15 at the door.
