Man faces two decades in prison after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography
Child pornography possession charges are serious as they can be pursued at either the state or federal level, or both. There is often damaging evidence involved, as seen in a recent case. Many prosecutors try to use it as leverage to coerce pleas out of the accused. This can occur even before individuals have the opportunity to speak to a defense lawyer who can help them understand their rights and explain the consequences of the charges.
A 56-year-old man from Steuben County, New York, could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison and fined $250,000 after admitting to possessing child pornography. Authorities executed a federal search warrant in November 2018 and seized several of his digital devices.
They arrested Painted Post resident Christopher Kelly, who pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. The search took place after an undercover FBI special agent discovered in April 2018 that a computer at Kelly’s home was sharing child pornography.
According to a forensic analysis, Kelly’s devices stored five videos and around 250 photos containing child pornography. Some of the content allegedly involved prepubescent children and minors being subjected to violence.
