Officers Shoot Man Accused Of Firing Gun At Bronx Subway Station
“Shortly after midnight, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert followed by a 911 call for a male firing shots here at the 225 Street train station,” Assistant Chief Larry Nikunen, Commanding Officer of Patrol Borough Bronx, said during an early morning press conference on Wednesday.
He said that both plain-clothed and uniformed officers went to the 2/5 station and found a man with a firearm on the southbound platform. “Two of the officers then fired several rounds at the suspect striking him one time the left shoulder,” he said.
The man was taken to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, and authorities say they found a 380-caliber semi-automatic firearm next him on the platform.
NYPD Chief of Transit Edward Delatorre said, “Our officers never hesitate to run towards danger every day to protect our city. This morning’s shooting just underscores the danger that these officers have to live with and the necessity to get illegal weapons off the streets.”
