Police have arrested a young man accused of throwing eggs at Orthodox Jewish New Yorkers and a synagogue in Brooklyn.

Mohib Hoque, 18, was charged with three counts each of hate crime assault, aggravated harassment, and harassment. He was also charged with reckless endangerment as a hate crime.

Investigators described three incidents that occurred last weekend: First, just after 6 p.m. on November 9th, someone threw an egg at a 38-year-old woman in front of 1442 38 Street in Borough Park. The egg missed its intended target.

15 minutes later, police say Hoque threw an egg through an open door at Sanz Synagogue on Dahill Road. No one was hit by the egg, which splattered against a wall inside the synagogue.

And on Sunday, November 10th, at 4:15 p.m., a 50-year-old woman was walking on 38th street near 15th Avenue, near the Sochatchov synagogue. Police say that “three unknown males approached her from behind… and one of the males threw an egg at the female.” The woman was hit by the egg in the back.

A mother of four said some of her children were hit by eggs on 38th Street. She told WABC 7, “They had eggs thrown at them. We’re being laughed at, they felt. And then they just ran home.”

Anyone with information in regard to these incidents is asked to call the NYPD‘s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
