Video: Alanis Morissette Did Some Subway Busking With Jimmy Fallon
’90s rock goddess Alanis Morissette took her live show to the 47-50th Streets Rockefeller Center subway station recently, busking in a wig alongside a poorly disguised Jimmy Fallon for a segment on his show. (You may recall when he did this with U2.) They performed one holiday tune (“Little Drummer Boy”) in disguise before tossing their wigs aside and announcing their true identity to a growing audience; by the first notes of Morissette’s 1995 hit “You Oughta Know,” straphangers came running through the turnstiles. Fallon acted as a hype man as she belted out her classic:
During the interview segment, Morissette recalls busking in Los Angeles briefly, before the LAPD made her stop for not having a permit.
As noted in the interview, Morissette is having (a well-earned) “banner-ish year”: She has a new album coming out in May 2020, when she will also be celebrating the 25th anniversary of her album Jagged Little Pill with a tour featuring Liz Phair and Garbage (they’ll be hitting Jones Beach next June; tickets on sale December 13th). And her musical (with a book written with Diablo Cody) opens on Broadway this week!
